Behind the Seams: Visiting Fox Brothers & Co.

At Oliver Brown, we pride ourselves on sourcing the finest fabrics for our collections, and there’s no better partner than Fox Brothers & Co. to bring our newest suits to life. Located in Somerset, their mill has been weaving cloth for over 250 years, serving discerning customers from Cary Grant to Fred Astaire, Winston Churchill to today’s modern gentleman.

Our visit to the Fox Brothers & Co. factory was a journey into the rich history of craftsmanship. Established in 1772, Fox Brothers & Co. has been producing woollen and worsted fabrics for over three centuries. Officially recognised as the original creators of flannel, their extensive archive, dating back to their foundation, was a fascinating highlight for our team. Today, they blend traditional techniques with cutting-edge technology to craft the exceptional flannel fabrics for which they are renowned.

The navy and brown cloth selected for our new suits is expertly designed for impeccable drape and comfort, and we had the privilege of witnessing it being woven during our visit.  These timeless colours are versatile enough for any wardrobe, offering endless styling possibilities. Crafted from 100% fine merino wool worsted flannel by Fox Brothers & Co., these suits embody our tailoring philosophy: contemporary tailoring cut from classic British tradition.

The worsted check flannel we’ve chosen is one of the lighter weight fabrics within the Fox Worsted Flannel collection; woven with yarns spun from long combed wool fibres it has an incredibly smooth feel, expertly achieved with a milled Fox Flannel finish.
