Meet Sam, Made to Measure Specialist at our Jermyn Street store. Hailing from France near Fontainebleau, Sam brings his unique blend of French and British tailoring expertise to Oliver Brown. He started his journey in the world of luxury fashion, but an epiphany in a vintage shop in Montreal steered him towards classic tailoring.
Sam found his place in the first and last bastion of British tailoring in France, Old England, which was located in Paris. He acquired a wealth of knowledge from the best British tailors, including the intricacies of clothes, fabrics, trimmings, cuts, trends, morphology, and even climate. When Old England closed its doors after 150 years, Sam hopped on a train to London and started working at the legendary Old Hat in Fulham, just like our undercutter Isaac, Sam considers Old Hat the best school he has ever attended.
Sam's background in business studies gives him a unique perspective on the world of tailoring. He pursued his lessons in morphology and applied his knowledge of cuts and fabrics in the made to measure field with Taliare, a bespoke and MTM tailors in Marylebone, before joining the Oliver Brown team.
Sam's strong interest in craftsmanship, elegance, and people drew him towards a career in tailoring. He most enjoys meeting new people every day and sharing his knowledge and passion with them. A typical day at work for Sam is never typical, but he could be talking to a customer about the rules and formalities of dress, fitting an MTM garment that has come back from the workshop, or guiding a customer in selecting the right cloth for their suit.
When he is not helping customers look their best, Sam enjoys foraging for wild mushrooms in Surrey, vintage clothing, antique hunting at car boot sales, and indulging his long-time passion for cinema, which started when he watched 2001: A Space Odyssey at the age of 7. He is also fascinated by Japanese culture.
One of Sam's most memorable moments was taking the measurements of a wool allergic Rockstar for a tweed shooting suit. Sam's love of people, craftsmanship, and culture make him an invaluable part of the Oliver Brown team.
Sam is seen wearing his very own Made to Measure suit but some of his favourite Oliver Brown items are the Moleskin Trousers, which he wears between the months of December and January outside of work, and is looking forward to wearing them when they came back into stock. His favourite formal wear items are the Black barathea Whittaker dinner suit with its grosgrain shawl.
